What is dark decor and how to style it?
Have you ever seen the hashtag styleitdark, or heard people talking about dark decor and wondered what that actually means. If gloomy is your immediate thought, I’m here to tell you it’s anything but that!
So what is it? Dark decor is a creative approach to interior design based around the use of deep, rich colours and indulgent textures to create a space that exudes opulence, elegance, warmth and drama. It embraces moody shades, such as midnight navy, slate graphite, rich burgundy, deep greens and velvety black. When combined in the right way, these shades can create a space full of mystery and intrigue.
The best way to really pull this look together and make it come alive is by adding accents of metallic, think a gold leaf mirror, or a splash of copper across a piece of furniture. Lighting is also key to creating inviting cosy corners, or to add further drama. Finally, whichever rich moody palette you choose, you can afford to add a few small pops of colour; a fuschia pink cushion or a striking colourful piece of art will really stand out against this dramatic backdrop.
If you want to dip your toe into this interiors trend, a small bathroom or toilet is a great place to inject a bit of drama!
